High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Jazz singing can be defined by the instrumental approach to the voice, where the singer can match the instruments in their stylistic approach to the lyrics, improvised or otherwise, or through scat singing, that is, the use of nonsensical meaningless non-morphemic syllables to imitate the sound of instruments. The ?roots? of jazz music were very much vocal, with ?field hollers? and ceremonial chants, but whilst the blues maintained a strong vocal tradition, with singers such as Ma Rainey and Bessie Smith heavily influencing the progress of American popular music in general, early jazz bands only featured vocalists periodically, albeit those with a more ?bluesy? tone of voice, one of the first ?Jazz? recordings, the 1917 Original Dixieland Jass Band recordings featured one Sarah Martin as vocalist.

Julius Watkins was the first prominent jazz French horn player in the history of American music. Although his performance capabilities were comparable to those of other significant performers of traditional horn repertoire, Watkins has received little attention posthumously from music scholars, jazz artists, and other performers of his instrument. The purpose of this book is threefold: to document Julius' complete life story for the first time in biographical form, to determine his performance characteristics within chamber jazz ensembles of various instrumental combinations, and to explore the development of the jazz French horn genre from 1977 to the present day. In writing this book, it is my goal to create not only awareness for this style of French horn playing, but to educate other musicians and potential audience members internationally on the subject of Julius Watkins, his professional accomplishments and performance style, and of this rare artistic form.

I Am Jazz The story of a transgender child based on the real-life experience of Jazz Jennings, who has become a spokesperson for transkids everywhere “This is an essential tool for parents and teachers to share with children whether those kids identify as trans or not. I wish I had had a book like this when I was a kid struggling with gender identity questions. I found it deeply moving in its simplicity and honesty.”—Laverne Cox (who plays Sophia in “Orange Is the New Black”) From the time she was two years old, Jazz knew that she had a girl’s brain in a boy’s body. She loved pink and dressing up as a mermaid and didn’t feel like herself in boys’ clothing. This confused her family, until they took her to a doctor who said that Jazz was transgender and that she was born that way. Jazz’s story is based on her real-life experience and she tells it in a simple, clear way that will be appreciated by picture book readers, their parents, and teachers. About Jazz Jennings, Jessica Herthel Jessica Herthel is the director of the Stonewall National Education Project, which networks LGBTQ inclusive school districts and develops educational…

Constructing a Jazz Solo
50,40 € *

The aim of this book is to show how to construct a jazz solo from a chord progression. As such, it is not really a manual on how to improvise , rather, it is more like constructing or composing a jazz melody. Nevertheless, the method given here has a couple of things in its favour. One is that it is a five-step add water approach that is, it doesn t require any particular jazz talent to achieve a reasonable result. As such, it may be useful for those who have some knowledge of music, but little experience in jazz improvisation. The second is that, while working out solos isn t really improvising, the basic techniques given here should stand in good stead. With practice, these techniques will eventually become second nature and faster to recall when improvising. Ultimately, the improviser will abandon the step-by-step approach and internalise the material holistically.
