Funky! Gordon Goodwin is the hottest writer on the scene today. The Big Phat Band is modern, hip, exciting, fresh, and captivating to listen to -- and here is the real thing as performed/recorded by the Big Phat Band. Solos available for alto, tenor, trumpet, and bone. A percussion part is included along with an optional vibe part. On this one, Gordon included an optional flute and clarinet part if you want to expand the ensemble. Although challenging, Get in Line is not quite as difficult as many of Gordon´s fabulous charts. As recorded on the newest CD by Gordon Goodwin´s Big Phat Band, The Phat Pack on Silverline Records. Excellent writing! (excerpt 1:32)
Holiday jazz by Gordon Goodwin. This adaptation of Oh Tannenbaum is quite an adventure offering a chorale, some Basie style and fast and furious Goodwin bebop. Solo space for alto and tenor sax, trumpet and trombone. Optional flute for 2nd alto sax. Lead alto has either a standard alto part or an optional part for alto with a soprano double. A very exciting chart as performed by the Big Phat Band.
Slow and bluesy! The title chart as recorded on Gordon Goodwin´s newest CD, The Phat Pack. Things to enjoy: it´s kind of greasy, it´s full of twists and turns, calls for brass plunger mutes and optional bass clarinet for bari sax, and the lead trumpet range goes up to written E with a few G´s. There is solo space for all saxes, trumpet 4 and trombone 1. Show stopping!
Gordon´s tour-de-force, tongue-in-cheek tribute to cartoons is stellar! The mixing of legit and powerhouse swing makes this chart a show stopper. Soprano sax lead for the saxes throughout and some feisty a cappella sections will keep any experienced band on the edge of its seats. Solo space for soprano, tenor, trumpet, and trombone along with percussion parts and an optional synth part for the keyboard. As recorded on the Silverline Records album XXL (CD and DVD Audio) by Gordon Goodwin´s Big Phat Band.
At last, a showcase for the trumpet section from Gordon Goodwin! The groove is straight eighths with a funky feel. Solo space is provided for trumpets 1, 2, 3, 4, but can be tailored as desired. Lead trumpet range is to written high G with an optional A. This is a fun chart and will be a kick for the band and audience.
