Also included are studio albums Amandla and the Dingo OST as well as the live album Live Around The World . With linear notes written by Jazz critic Ashley Kahn, this box set is a real treat for anyone with an interest in Jazz or the man himself. (Justine Dench)
A spectacular song‐and‐dance revue filmed in luminous early Technicolor—rediscovered and newly restored Made during the early years of the movie musical, this exuberant revue was one of the most extravagant, eclectic, and technically ambitious Hollywood productions of its day. Starring the bandleader PAUL WHITEMAN, then widely celebrated as the King of Jazz, the film drew from Broadway variety shows of the time to present a spectacular array of sketches, performances by such acts as the Rhythm Boys (featuring a young BING CROSBY), and orchestral numbers overseen by Whiteman himself (including a larger‐than‐life rendition of GEORGE GERSHWIN’s “Rhapsody in Blue”)—all lavishly staged by veteran theatre director JOHN MURRAY ANDERSON and beautifully shot in early Technicolor. Long available only in incomplete form, King of Jazz appears here newly restored to its original glory, offering a fascinating snapshot of the way mainstream American popular culture viewed itself at the dawn of the 1930s. Features: New 4K digital restoration by Universal Pictures, with uncompressed monaural soundtrack New audio commentary featuring jazz and film critic Gary Giddins, music and cultural critic Gene Seymour, and musician and bandleader Vince Giordano New introduction by Giddins New interview with musician and pianist Michael Feinstein Four new video essays by authors and archivists James Layton and David Pierce on the development and making of King of Jazz Deleted scenes and alternate opening‐title sequence All Americans, a 1929 short film featuring a version of the “Melting Pot” number that was restaged for the finale of King of Jazz I Know Everybody and Everybody’s Racket, a 1933 short film featuring Paul Whiteman and His Orchestra Two Oswald the Lucky Rabbit cartoons from 1930, featuring music and animation from King of Jazz

Their Paris is one of underground, smoke-filled Jazz bars and the rain-drenched streets of the Left Bank at night. However their carefree idyll is disturbed when two American tourists (Joanne Woodward and Diahann Carroll) enter their lives, and against the backdrop of music and moonlight, they find themselves falling in love. All too soon however, romance is put to the test, as the men find themselves torn between their love for the women, and their passion for music. Featuring the legendary Louis Armstrong as Wild Man Moore, the film’s score by the incomparable Jazz musician Duke Ellington was Oscar nominated in 1962. Limited vinyl LP pressing of this classic 1964 album. One of the biggest-selling jazz albums of all time, not to mention bossa nova's finest moment, Getz/Gilberto trumped jazz samba by bringing two of bossa nova's greatest innovators - guitarist/singer João Gilberto and composer/pianist Antonio Carlos Jobim - to New York to record with Stan Getz. The results were magic. It's release helped fuel the bossa nova craze in the United States and internationally, becoming the first Grammy Award-winning album from non-American artists. It brought together Stan Getz, who had already performed the genre on his LP Jazz Samba, João Gilberto (one of the creators of the style), and Jobim, a celebrated Brazilian composer (and also one of the main creators of the genre), who wrote most of the songs in the album. It became one of the best-selling jazz albums of all time, and turned Astrud Gilberto, who sang on the tracks The Girl from Ipanema and Corcovado , into an internationally celebrated musician.
